Why is keeping self-respect and dignity more important than anything in today's society?

We live in a society where being true to yourself isn't as magical as it used to be. Or respected. Some people think the point of this world is to fit in. But that's misguided. The point of this world is to find one's self. I could go on until tomorrow about what the point of our lives actually is, but I would like to emphasize one problem that occurs when a person wants to pursue their dreams. Like on any mission or task, problems appear on the way. There's no getting around that. There's no getting around the obstacles on the way that want to prevent you from going your own way. These obstacles can remain in their inanimate form or they can also appear as real human beings, literally standing in the way on the path to your dreams. But you know what? These things have always been the same and will remain the same. What shouldn't remain the same, though, is your mind. Never settle for anything or have a definite and final opinion on things. But all through that process there's one thing that you should keep with you. Stay faithful to yourself. Know your way, your destination, your goals and what you are willing to do and risk to get there. "A man without goals is like a ship without a rudder." said Thomas Carlyle.

I strongly believe that every person was born with a purpose. Some might not find it until they are sixty years old. People get married in their fifties. People change their religion in their sixties. Life is a constant bumpy ride to something unknown, but yet so tempting. The secret to life is to keep craving. Keep wandering. Keep challenging yourself on daily basis. That is the secret to live a fulfilled life. Mark Twain once said: "The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time." You might often hear that everything's amazing and no one's happy. You know why is that? Cause we all look in the wrong directions. While we're dealing with insignificant, temporary things, life passes us by. And by the time you open your eyes, your "tomorrow" becomes today and you realize that your life has gone by. Maybe it's silly, or perhaps even unnecessary to discuss such things. But studies show that the youth of today has become apathetic, inactive, pessimistic. These are the problems of today, because after all, the future of our world is based on the youth and the changes we make. While we try to emphasize the meaning of the age improvements, we forgot to take care of ourselves first. We can live in the world of industry, but if we don't know who we are, none of those machines will help us figure it out. That's why it is so important that today's progress is based on international communication and self-development. The more we talk about us, the stronger we are. It is simple as that, but people today are obsessed with media, gadgets they always carry around and other people's opinions. We don't know who we are anymore. We've lost ourselves in the progress we made in the name of freedom of the people. It was supposed to unite us, now look where it brought us. To complete desolation. We no longer appreciate conversations, we don't realize the power of words and what we can achieve together. Because this has become a world of individuals that only care about their own ass. No wonder we have the issues we have today. Past times may be in the past, but at least they didn't deliberately want to destroy the world (excluding wars). Today all we care about is how to move, talk and think faster, but not how to think. Children have become dependent of those little gadgets. No one wants to be spontaneous, true or authentic anymore. It's sad to look around and see clones all around you. No warm smiles, pleasant eyes; only sharp words, failed dreams and arrogance.

I wonder how long it will take for the world to realize what an awful mistake it is making. But I am already wrong just by saying that: it's not the planet that is corrupted and wrong, it's the people. Nothing's wrong with the world, because most of it are poor and uneducated people who are carelessly following cunning leaders. No one tries to be politically active anymore, no one tries to be in touch with current events or even see outside the box. To think I have next to no one to discuss that with makes me wonder what on Earth are these youngsters even doing. I have no right to say that, though. I know the answer. We're just being kids. The problem is, we live in the age where we have no other option but to go with the flow, adapt and try our best to make it in this world. The meaning of dreams is almost forgotten. Let's see it this way to make this clearer: the youth isn't what it is anymore. Every sixteen-year-old has some sort of image of their around 10 year future. They're going to finish high-school, go study, maybe go abroad and find a job. That's it. That's how the future is settled for us today. But when you ask a 25-year-old or perhaps a 30-year-old what they're going to do with their life, they seem confused, depressed and tired. Tired of chasing invisible dreams that weren't even theirs, but of society.

They say you don't see the world as it is but as you are. That applies for some things, but if you look at this case, it isn't the truth. I am rather positive and rebellious person, but I look upon the world very pessimistically. That doesn't mean I should do nothing about it, though. It is that very feeling of desperation that must be the motivation to make a change. But I don't think one person is able to do it on their own. You see, to create a successful revolution, you need large groups of people with smart-ass arguments all over the globe. And for that, we need to make a change within ourselves. And that is the point I am trying to emphasize here. That it is so much more important to be yourself and brave and unique, than follow the herd of sheep that don't know how to use their own brain. It is sad to know this world holds so much potential, while we deliberately try to destroy it with lame minds. I don't know where to begin with ideas of how we could change this world, how a simple awareness of the planet we live on and how small we actually are, would change the minds of people. If people could see the sea of stars every night out of their window, they would realize how insignificant we are. It would change the philosophy of our world. We are just a tiny, millisecond glimpse through our galaxy, yet we think our sky is the only one out there.

Nothing's impossible. I think change is as realistic as anything that is currently going on. Our true nature shows in the dark times and that is when we must not lessen. We must not hesitate to make tough decisions in order to keep this world going. Leonardo DiCaprio nicely said once when he had a speech at UN: "I pretend for a living. You do not." He meant that we can't just close our eyes and turn our backs to the things that are happening around us. Maybe not here, but on the same planet. Since when we let evil win? Since when it is not our fight? The fight for humanity is every earthling's duty and obligation. If that is not the case, I truly don't know when we've become so lifeless, careless and heartless. I understand that society is hard to change, that's why a single person must start with themselves. Maybe I'm a dreamer and a hopeless soul for saying out loud that I want to make a change in this world, to make a difference. That's why it is so important that as many revolutionary people get in touch with their inner self. That remaining true to yourself is the key to success. To know where limits are, to fight for equality, justice and freedom. Even if it might take until human race ceases to exist. We owe it to everyone in our history that gave their life to make a change.

The Best Things In Life Are Free: True Or False?

We are constantly surrounded by statements like: "The best things come free." and all that positive thinking along. But is it really true? I mean, I get it that when people say that they mostly mean things like love, joy and friends. These things do, however, come free, but by free it's mostly considered as not including money. For all these things that I counted, true dedication and believing yourself are present and these kind of things are what truly makes a person rich. Not money, not some kick-ass career (that may have influenced on your inner self, though) or super yachts. It's something that comes from within and that really takes effort and time to possess. And to get there, it actually takes a whole different kind of price for what you really want. It demands hard work that is often not quite what rich people own. There is a beautiful quote by Patrick Meagher: "Some people are so poor all they have is money." And that is, sadly, often correct. Peopl...

American Beauty

There are only few things in this world that are able to truly leave me speechless, astounded, and numb. I tend to believe I have seen a lot of things that have touched me right to the depths of my soul, making me feel like there is so much more life behind ordinary things. And those occassions are the reason we stay alive. May it be a soft breeze caressing your skin on a surprisingly warm March day that reminds you of the hidden wonders of nature, a sentimental gesture shared between a mother and a child that demonstrates the meaning of humanity and unconditional love or simply a flash of a moment in an ordinary day that keeps you sane and secured, knowing there is some magic hidden in these ordinary, seemingly unnoteworthy moments that we need to treasure and remember forever, and that even though we are aware of this magic, we could never reach it. And that is the beauty of it. However, when I saw this movie it truly shook me, in a good way. I also recently watched Good Will Hunti...

I heard an airplane passing overhead. I wished I was on it

More and more I feel like I don't belong here, in this hell called school. It's not like I'm unwanted in society, it's more like how I'm being somehow ignored, but not directly. I can still laugh with my girl friends and have a good time at school breakes, but when we like have a free hour or we just don't do anything in class, I can feel how I don't fit in. I then realise how different I am, or how every individual is different. But some girls, most of them actually, can still find something in common, something that makes them more wanted, that makes them popular and attractive. They're all the same, although I still believe everyone's special in some way. But it's like they all feel the same about that "love" they think they know what it is, they have opinions on things, same taste in music, same behaviour. And I'm so sick of it. So sick of everybody pretending, not showing their real feelings then pitying themselves later. And ...
