Why is keeping self-respect and dignity more important than anything in today's society?

We live in a society where being true to yourself isn't as magical as it used to be. Or respected. Some people think the point of this world is to fit in. But that's misguided. The point of this world is to find one's self. I could go on until tomorrow about what the point of our lives actually is, but I would like to emphasize one problem that occurs when a person wants to pursue their dreams. Like on any mission or task, problems appear on the way. There's no getting around that. There's no getting around the obstacles on the way that want to prevent you from going your own way. These obstacles can remain in their inanimate form or they can also appear as real human beings, literally standing in the way on the path to your dreams. But you know what? These things have always been the same and will remain the same. What shouldn't remain the same, though, is your mind. Never settle for anything or have a definite and final opinion on things. But all through that ...

My most recent obsession (it has got nothing to do with movies, I promise)

Okay, I lied. Maybe it does have something in common with movies, but in an entirely different meaning than the movies I've written about before. It's something so magical, magnifying and unrepeatable it makes me even more sure I was born in a wrong generation. Makes me feel something deep inside me that makes me want to fly and makes me feel invincible, infinite. And what else in this word has such power over our minds and souls other than something as everlasting as movies, music and literature? That's right, I'm talking about all of those things here. But there's a slight difference or I should rather say, a hidden catch: I'm not talking about movies, music and literature in this time you and I live in, but about a time long before us, in the time of our parents' youth. The golden age. The age of when people actually poured their soul, effort and love in their work. And that's exactly what made it so great and infinite. The authenticity and charm, how...

Plain Jane or Plain Vain?

I was extremely bored the other day so I decided to go downstairs to check up on my family. They seem like nice people. Just kidding, I'm not that anti-social (yet). I do come downstairs once or twice a day (read: sarcasm). Anyway, since my boredom couldn't be washed away by all the fascinating services my computer offers, I decided to turn on TV on a random channel. It happened to be set right on the MTV channel and guess what was on the listing? You guessed correctly - the Plain Jane. I watched that show two or three times before and I loved it because Louise Roe actually put some confidence in that girls' life and she finally showed them that being a woman is a gift. But it's probably been like one year or one year and a half since I last watched the show. My present opinion about the show? Totally sucks. Why would I ever want to change my opinion so drastically about some thing, you probably ask. The thing is, I realize that times change and that nowadays people w...

K Is For Keith

This was one of the most intense, emotional and dramatic movies I've ever watched. And trust me - I watched A LOT of movies. The first thing that I have to especially emphasize here is what a great story line this movie has. It may seem like a cliche or a subject that really has nothing to do with life, but the matter of fact it does have a lot to do with life and what we experience in it. In the beginning, the story is focused on this young girl Natalie that is successful as in the school field as the tennis court. She is like one of those perfect girls that you're so jealous and envious of because they seem to have they life so organized. But the best thing in this movie is that it shows how you never know what someone has to go through, what battle they are fighting. The only thing we see is the surface and what people let us see. And the secret is that people don't let us in or close enough to let us see what's really behind all those successful stories, because fai...

Why Is Emotional Intelligence More Important Than Intelligence Quotient

There are many good books focused on this subject and I think that it's very important that we show the world what emotional intelligence is and why it's so important. We face all sorts of prejudices and discrimination based on what "smart" should sound and look like every day. I think it's sad when people don't even give each other a chance to get to know each other, to see that it's much more to a person than just what's on the outside. It's sad that just a piece of paper can determine your future until you die, because so many people hold that special gift inside of them, but can't express it. Why? Because other people are too busy filling us up with other, completely irrelevant bullshit. And I get it: there's nothing we can do about it. It's a cruel, unfair world and no one gets out of it alive. But what I'm saying is that we turn away so many potential geniuses because we're blinded by this idea of some form of brilliance. ...

D Is For Dangerous Beauty

Another review that I loved to write. Movies that have their plot set in the medieval time are also my all time favorite and I love watching movies about how life was back then. How women dressed, how men courted. Oh, how they danced. I wish I lived in the different century. Not to escape my problems, which I probably wouldn't because I'm like a magnet for trouble (and certainly not  in the good way), but to just taste a different way of life. Like a totally other lifestyle. And this movie showed everything I adore about those movies: real beauty, courting, dancing, fashion and love. What truly enchants me in these kind of movies is the credibility of the people, pluck and gestures that have long disappeared to be still carried out today. It was something magical about those times and I would give anything to get a better look or taste to it itself. This movie in particular has showed various styles of living back then: from the rich citizens and operators of the old town of ...

First-Year Experiences And Entering Sophomore Year

All I can say is that my point of view on high school and general opinion of public school education has changed drastically. And maybe not so much in a bad nor good way. It just changed. As they say, you gotta live before you learn. And I definitely lived and made a whole lot mistakes (especially on exams) before I learned. Not that I am not a hard-worker (which I definitely am), but like each first-year student says towards the end of their first summer in high-school: I wish I worked harder. And I think sophomore year is really the chance to make up for the past mistakes you've made because your head was on an entirely different planet like the whole year. Not blaming anyone else for that, of course, but I can say that I mostly learn after I've screwed up pretty bad. I know that's nothing unusual for a person, especially for one in her teens, but still, I am aware that at times I acted a bit immature and definitely not like a person who wants to raise her GPA. But I beli...

The Last July Movie Review: Juno

This one's a bit special, innit? Well, it sure is one of those movies they make you think about life a bit. It's not necessarily bad, of course, but just has different point of view. And I like movies with different points of view, gripping plot and a good moral lesson. Not all movies possess that anymore. It is yet another teen movie (or at least about teens) and showing a lot how things go in high-school for Juno and all that, but I gotta say it surprised me in a very good way. I surely didn't expect such plot twist, good acting and unravelling of events. One of the many good qualities that this movie possess is definitely how things turn out in the end. It takes you by surprise on every step. It has a fun beginning and surely an ending that will bring tears in your eyes. Juno MacGuff is a seemingly extraordinary teen with a slightly inconvenient problem ahead of her. The movie begins with Juno taking the third pregnancy test so far and like they say, third time is the...

J Stands For: Julie & Julia

Based on two miraculous true stories about two women who had much more in common than just passion for cooking, the movie was a great representation of how no matter what you go through life, you should go after what truly makes you happy, even though if you might come across more than just one failure on the road. Like Julia Child herself said: "Find something you're passionate about and keep it tremendously interested in." What better advice can a person give? Coming from a person who has (sort of) already found her "thing", I can say that the key to success is keep doing the thing you are doing. I've got another great quote in store, this time from infamous Winston Churchill: "Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It's the courage to continue that counts." What great words, wouldn't you agree? Now, this whole movie was, clearly, about persuading yourself into doing the impossible, setting yourself a challenge. It's important t...

Second July Review: Jane Eyre

What an amazing, emotional movie. I didn't read the book though, which was written by Emily Bronte's sister, Charlotte Bronte, but the movie itself was already spoken in very difficult, old English language which can be hard for a non-natural speaker. Anyway, this movie doesn't even need words for a viewer to understand how much pain there is present and how complicated the whole situation was. The horrors that haunted poor Jane for whole her youth. The injustice and cruelty that were caused to her. Life was very difficult for a poor young girl back then and Jane had more than just a taste of it. Despite always being misunderstood, judged and seemingly guilty of every single thing, she kept her dignity, humility, respect and the one true fire within her. Not an easy job to be done, that's for sure. The past was Jane's greatest enemy. It never left her side. Even though she might seemed strong and somehow fearless on the outside, she had a sensitive and weak side, ...

Women And Makeup: The Unbreakable Friendship

Even though I do not belong among those women who use make-up on daily basis and especially a lot, I am only talking about this from personal experience of how I see the world response to women who do wear lots of make-up every day and how is this affecting young women. I follow lots of gorgeous make-up gurus as on Facebook as on Youtube and I think some really do know their business (since they are paid by Youtube and Google themselves it shouldn't really be a problem). But many people do think of this in a really misguided way. Because make-up and applying make-up on your own face or someone else's is truly a work of art. Its effect and results are more than just stunning and I can understand why girls fell in love with it. I will write lots of my points of view, pros and cons of the whole thing and about the girls themselves and how the society is accepting it. First off, my point of view on make-up is completely different as some girls might have. It's just I don'...
